WILTON — Police have a suspect in a March theft from a Wilton construction site and a local man is facing a felony charge of  theft, according to Detective Richard Billian of the Wilton Police Department.

Jason Reckards, 30, of Wilton was charged last week after an investigation into the theft of a metal brake owned by Jeff Roy of Rumford was stolen from a construction site. The metal brake is used for bending metal, and is worth $2,500, Billian said.

During the investigation, Billian used a specialized tracking program and found the stolen property in Waterville, he said. The metal brake had been sold to a pawn shop. Billian found the person who was believed to have sold the property to the shop, Reckards, and during an interview, Reckards confessed to stealing the metal brake, Billian said.

The property will be returned to the owner and Reckards faces Superior Court proceedings for the theft charge.

“It was great informing the owner that I located his property. I hope this will be a clear message to anyone thinking about stealing from other people,” Billian said.
