NEWRY — The Lions Club International Maine Lions District 41 convention was held April 24, at Sunday River Resort.

Mackenzie Kelley, a sophomore at Monmouth Academy, was awarded third place in the Lions Club International District 41 Speak Out Contest, for her speech “Immigration Through Time.” She received an $100 cash award, plaque and certificate of appreciation for participation.

Kelley also won first place in the Regional 5 Speak Out Lions Club International contest. She received an $150 cash award, plaque and a certificate on March 30 at the Manchester Lions Club.

She placed first at the Monmouth Lions Club International Speak Out contest on March 15, and was awarded $50 cash, a trophy and a Maine Lions Helen Keller District 41 pin.
