Lewiston police were joined by others from several departments just after noon on Wednesday when they chased a man who was believed to have violated a court order. The large police response was mostly coincidence – officers from several departments were at nearby Pettingill Elementary School to train with their police dogs when the chase began. A pair of Lewiston officers were in the area on domestic violence checks to ensure that couples court ordered to stay away from each other were complying. It was believed the man who fled had been issued an order to steer clear of the woman he had been visiting. Police with thier dogs followed the man through the area, crossing over into Bates College property nearby. They were still searching for the suspect later in the day.
