AUBURN — Josephine Edith Gay, 94, of Greene, formerly of Livermore Falls, died early Tuesday afternoon at Clover Manor in Auburn.
She was born Dec. 12, 1915 in Blue Grass, Va., a daughter of John and Alice Wimer Colaw. She received her education in New York schools and graduated from DeRuyter High School in 1933.
On June 14, 1938, she married Wilfred Gay of Livermore Falls. She worked at Burnham and Morrill Bean Shop, Parker’s Lunch and at the Corner Store in Livermore Falls for several years.
She was a longtime member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church, Livermore Falls-Jay senior citizens, Wilton senior citizens, Canton senior citizens, senior’s bowling league and the widow’s club. She was a former 33-year member of the Pythian Sisters and volunteered for R.S.V.P., W.A.A.A., Parkview Nursing Home and the Head Start program for several years.
She enjoyed crafts, bowling, playing cards, especially “Skip-Bo,” her flower gardens and her large collection of teddy bears. She traveled extensively and toured many parts of the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Bermuda, Mexico and Hawaii.
She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and her wide circle of friends.
She is survived by a daughter, June Franchetti of Winthrop; a son, Brent Gay and his wife, Celina, of Livermore Falls; five grandchildren, Julie, Terri, Jason, Kevin and Fred; a great-grandson, Tristan; and was looking forward to the October birth of twin great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1987; a son, Lawrence, in 1998; her six sisters; and two brothers.
