BATH — New England Youth Theater will present Maine’s premiere performance of “13,” a Broadway rock musical from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown.
The show, known for its humor, wit and upbeat music, will be presented Thursday through Sunday, June 24-27, at the Chocolate Church Arts Center.
“13” tells the story of young Evan Goldman who is forced by his parents divorce to move from New York City to Indiana just before his bar mitzvah.
In a middle school in Appleton, Ind., 13-year-olds leap from childhood into their teens. Like kids everywhere, they find themselves struggling to survive classes and navigate their way into the “cool” crowd.
In 100 song-filled minutes, “13” tells their engaging story with all-teen performers along with two teen band members.
“13” is produced and musically directed by Rebecca Beck, founder of New England Youth Theater. The show is directed and choreographed by Vincent Ratsavong, a former dancer with the Portland Ballet and dance instructor for Studio 48 Performing Arts Center.
Among the cast members are Sarah Perreault, Graydon Nuki, Chloe Teboe and Zach Goodman of Brunswick; and Matt Houde of Topsham. Appearing in the student council are Brunswick residents Lydia Macdonald and Brittany Kopec. In the roles of cheerleaders are Annabelle Gardiner of Brunswick and Azaria Dotson of Topsham.
Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be at 7:30 p.m. For opening night, family night, all tickets are $10. Tickets for Friday and Saturday shows are $14 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, $12 for New England Youth Theater and Studio 48 members. Tickets to the 2 p.m. show on Sunday are $12.
