LEWISTON — Arthur and Helen Hughes of Lewiston recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Carriage House in Lewiston. Party hosts were daughters of the couple, Susan  Rollock, Nancy Spencer and Laurie Chouinard.

Family pictures were displayed and a buffet dinner was served. Henry Hughes, brother of Mr. Hughes, was the toastmaster.

Mr. Hughes and the former Helen Hinckley were married on May 7, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Chapel in Lewiston. In addition to their three daughters, the couple has three grandchildren, Justin Spencer and Lea and Logan Chouinard and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Walters and Alexis Filiault.

Mrs. Hughes is retired from the state of Maine, having worked for more than 30 years, first in the Department of Education and then the Bureau of Veterans Services for 24 years.

Mr. Hughes is retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector for 30 years and was also president of Northeast Council Food Inspectors Local for more than 20 years. He owned and operated Art’s Barber Shop prior to his employment with the federal government.
