In a bid to beat the heat of a day that hit the mid-80s, Jerry Yurko, right, captain of the 47-member Team Gritty McDuff’s, which raised $20,791 for the American Lung Association’s Trek Across Maine 2010, leads participants up Main Street at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in downtown Farmington on the second leg of the three-day fundraiser. Bank signs showed the temperature as 56 degrees at the start of the 60-mile pedal to Colby College in Waterville via a scenic route through New Vineyard, New Portland, Anson, Madison and Norridgewock. Two hours later, the temperature was climbing past 70 degrees with a few thousand bicyclists strung out along Route 27.
After heading out on the 60-mile second leg of the three-day Trek Across Maine 2010 fundraiser for the American Lung Association early Saturday morning, participants wait for a green light at the intersection of Main Street and Broadway in downtown Farmington. Saturday’s ride ended at Colby College in Waterville. From there, the group departs on Sunday morning for the end of the road at Belfast.
A few thousand bicyclists participating in the second 60-mile leg of the three-day American Lung Association’s Trek Across Maine were strung out early Saturday morning on Route 27 from New Vineyard to Farmington enroute to Colby College in Waterville via a scenic route. This group was riding through the intersection of Main Street and Broadway in downtown Farmington at 6:43 a.m.
