GREENSBORO, N.C. – Abby Dunn of Edward Little High School won the silver medal Friday in the New Balance Outdoor Scholastic Track and Field Championships.
Dunn, who recently completed her sophomore year and won the Class A state championship in the racewalk, made the 2,200-mile round trip worthwhile with a time of 7 minutes, 38.18 seconds.
Evan Vincent, entering his senior year at Maranacook Community School, won the boys’ gold medal in a time of 7:10.50.
Twelve Maine athletes made the trip. In the boys’ race, Christian Malarsie of Bonny Eagle High School and Austin Michaud were third and fourth, respectively, joining Vincent as All-Americans.
Jennifer Thuotte of Gorham was fifth in the girls’ event to earn All-America status. Courtney Williams of Vassalboro placed seventh, Lewiston’s Nicole Court-Menendez ninth, Gardiner’s Annie Schide in 11th, Gorham’s Katie Flanders n13th, Farmington’s Emily Reed 15th, and New Sharon’s Abby Lochala 16th.
Since 1993, a total of 30 Maine racewalkers from 60 high schools have earned 174 All-American awards in the racewalk.
