HALLOWELL — Local Democrats in Senate District 21 (Pittston, Randolph, Chelsea, Gardiner, West Gardiner, Farmingdale, Hallowell, Manchester, Winthrop, Monmouth and Litchfield) will meet to nominate a candidate who will replace Rep. Nancy Smith, who has resigned from the race. The caucus will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, at Hall-Dale Elementary School, 26 Garden Lane.

Pot luck light refreshments will be on hand at about 6:15.

“This will be an open, competitive caucus,” explained Rita Moran, who chairs the Kennebec County Democratic Committee. “Any registered Democrat who lives in the district is invited to compete to be on the ballot in November, and several people have already expressed strong interest. All potential candidates will have the opportunity to speak, and answer questions from attendees,” she said.

While any Democrat is welcome to attend, only those living within Senate District 21 may vote.
