OXFORD — Finishing touches are being put on a new two-story, modular brick office building at Keiser Homes’ headquarters on Route 121 this week.
The building is expected to be a model for Keiser’s commercial construction business. The brick for the siding is produced by Morin Brick of Auburn.
Keiser Homes, a modular building manufacturer, was purchased by a national real estate firm, R.J. Finlay & Co., LLC. of Milford, N.H., late last year. The New Hampshire company also purchased Maine’s remaining brick manufacturer, Morin Brick, last year, allowing the 97-year-old company to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
At the time, Keiser Homes President David Cuttler praised the move as one that will allow more growth for the company in an economically depressed time. The move was said to provide, in part, the company with the ability to move into new markets such as commercial and industrial.
The new structure, which will house sales and engineering staff and provide room for conference and meetings, is meant to be a marketing opportunity to showcase the companies’ stregnths and possibilities in the commercial field of modular building, said company officials.
In a statement released recently by the company, Cuttler said, “We wanted a building located at our factory that would fully demonstrate Keiser’s capability to build commercial spaces, and we think we found a design that people will be surprised to learn was built in a modular fashion.”
In building the new structure, which is almost 5,000 square feet, Keiser officials said they researched products ranging from lighting to heating systems that could be used in commercial buildings of modular design. The work will be used as a standard for future Keiser projects.
Keiser recently completed a $4.5 million project with CTA Construction in Boston, Mass., to build a 95-unit senior living center in Somerville, Mass., last year.
