PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Bishop Richard Malone says the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland’s fundraising appeal has exceeded its $40 million goal.
Malone said Wednesday the campaign that started nearly two years ago has drawn pledges totaling $42.2 million. The campaign ends June 30.
The donations will be used for immediate and long-term parish improvements and programs, Catholic Charities Maine, Catholic schools and other expenses.
Malone says the campaign shows that people support the Church even in hard times.
