LEWISTON — Marguerite Charest, 86, of Louise Street, Auburn, passed away on Monday, June 21, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in Lewiston, Jan. 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur and Maximilienne Guilmette Fortin. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was married to Rene Charest on Sept. 21, 1943; he predeceased her on Aug. 15, 1972.

Prior to her retirement in 1974, she was employed as a stitcher at Knapp Shoe Co. She was a member of St. Louis Church at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and the Ladies of Ste. Anne Sodality. She enjoyed many hobbies to include knitting, bingo, cards, and doing word search puzzles. Above all spending time with her family and friends is what made her most happy.

She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Ouellette of Auburn; a son, Raymond Charest and wife, Joline, of Tennessee; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgette Morin and husband, Armand, of Auburn; a brother, Arthur Fortin and wife, Jacqueline, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Dominique and Julien Fortin; one sister, Sister Marie Julien (Florence) Fortin; and special son-in-law, Donald Ouellette.
