FRYEBURG — The New Hampshire Bar Association will honor Peter Hastings of Fryeburg for reaching the 50-year milestone as a member on Friday, June 25.

The recognition will be held at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, N.H.

In 1957, Hastings decided to attend law school, thus foregoing his dream of being a farmer but much to the relief of his father, Judge Hugh Hastings of Fryeburg.

After completing his undergraduate education at Bowdoin College in 1957, Hastings embarked on the study of law at Boston University Law School, from which he graduated cum laude in 1960. He was a senior editor of the B.U. Law Review. He was admitted to both the Maine and New Hampshire Bars in 1960.

He also studied at New York University Graduate School of Business before returning to Fryeburg in 1961 to join his father and brother, David Hastings II, in the practice of law at Hastings & Son Law Office, now known as Hastings Law Office, P.A., 376 Main St., Fryeburg.

Throughout his 50 years in the practice of law, Hastings has represented many small towns and districts in Maine and New Hampshire, and continues to practice in the areas of trusts and estates, commercial and nonprofit business organizations, and real estate and tax matters.

From 1988-1992, he served in the Maine Legislature, representing District 97.

Hastings Law Office has been in existence since 1847. In addition to Peter Hastings, the firm currently has five lawyers practicing in both Maine and New Hampshire. For more information about Peter G. Hastings and Hastings Law Office, visit the website: www.hastings-law.com.
