LEWISTON — Buzzy Metayer was surprised by Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. on May 27 with the May 2010 Mayoral VIBE Award.

Gilbert said that Metayer was being recognized “in appreciation for his beautification efforts within the All-America City of Lewiston by volunteering his time to pick up litter throughout many areas of the city.”

“People like you make a tremendous difference, and you are commended for your demonstrated love of community. You help Lewiston look good,” Gilbert said.

Metayer humbly expressed his gratitude for the award, and Gilbert continued to praise Metayer’s civic contributions, reminding him that if others see him volunteering, perhaps they may decide to contribute as well.

Gilbert also presented Metayer with a VIBE lapel pin and a donated lunch for two.
