LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer “Tweens to Teens,” a free six-week support group for adolescents ages 12 to 17 dealing with a loved one diagnosed with cancer. The sessions will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 10 High Street in Lewiston beginning Tuesday, July 6.
The offering is part of the Dempsey Center’s Healing Tree Children’s Program. Coordinator Tookie Bright, MSW, LMSW-CC, will offer a comfortable environment where participants can express feelings, learn more about cancer and engage in various projects.
“”eens have their own unique set of needs when someone they love has a serious illness like cancer,” said Bright. “For some teens, having friends who can relate to the stress of cancer is the most important coping skill they have. This group provides teenagers a place to get together and make new friends with similar experiences.”
Preregistration is required. Call the Dempsey Center at 795-8250, toll-free at 877-336-7287 or visit www.dempseycenter.org.
