SABATTUS — A Greene man died Sunday after a single-vehicle accident on Route 126 in Sabattus.
Craig Wood, 56, died after his pickup went off the road, hit some rocks and rolled over. The crash occurred about 2:05 p.m. Sunday on Route 126 near the Sabattus Antique Mall.
Officer Jeremy Petty of the Sabattus Police Department said that the crash remains under investigation and that the State Medical Examiners Office will perform an autopsy Monday to determine a cause of death.
“We think he might have had a heart attack or a stroke,” Petty said. “We’re not sure what the exact cause of the accident was.”
Wood was westbound on Route 126 when the crash occurred, but his vehicle was facing east after the crash, Petty said. Neither speed nor alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, and Petty said it was unclear whether Wood died of injuries sustained in the accident.
Route 126 was down to one lane of traffic for about two hours.
