GOVERNMENT AT A GLANCE

Board: Minot Selectmen

Met: Monday

Cemetery expansion

The scoop: Town Administrator Arlan Saunders reported that the road serving the 3-acre expansion to the Center Minot Hill Cemetery has been laid out but conditions have been too wet to screen the loam. He noted that the cemetery committee will be meeting in mid-July to discuss the sale of lots, an area for a memorial garden and procedures for burial permits and sales agreements. Plans are still on schedule for residents to purchase lots in the cemetery expansion by the end of summer.

Code enforcement

The scoop: Saunders reported there has been no activity following Code Enforcement Officer Ken Pratt’s decision to deny local developer Chuck Starbird a building permit for his property off York Road. He said Starbird appears to have taken out an application for filing an appeal but has not returned it.

Summer paving

The scoop: The paving on Brighton Hill Road is complete and, Saunders reported, the paving company ended up using about 20 tons less than estimated. The shoulder work is scheduled to be done in about a month, giving time for the road to set. Saunders also noted that striping of center lines on Brighton Hill Road and roads elsewhere in town won’t be done until August at the earliest due to the shortage of paint for road striping.

Hydroseeding bids

The scoop: Following the Recreation Committee’s recommendation, selectmen awarded the contract to hydro-seed about 66,000 square feet of open soil in the ball field area at the Minot Memorial Park to Law’s Inc. of Lisbon for $1,867. Law’s bid was the lowest of four.

Trail stumping

The scoop: Saunders reported that Mike Washburn of Washburn & Son believes he has completed stumping on about 3,000 feet of walking trail in the Minot Memorial Park and would like the work inspected. Recreation Committee member Candace Gilpatric agreed to meet with Saunders Thursday morning to conduct the inspection.
