LEWISTON — Laurent ‘Larry’ Rioux, “loveable Larry,” 75, of New Gloucester passed away June 25.

He was born in Sabattus, Jan. 20, 1935, son of Cyril and Lucia Dionne Rioux.

He was educated in Lewiston schools, where he was active in music both in the band and chorus. He loved music! In 1952, he forged his age and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, seven  years later with the help of Margaret Chase Smith, he received a medical retirement discharge.

He was known to weave quite a story and led many AA groups in the L-A area. He was all heart and most passionate about life. At the center of his heart was his immediate family, his AA family, playing golf and travel and the last but not least his love of God. In his last years, he found peace in the presence of God at the chapel at Holy Cross in Lewiston.

He was employed as a salesperson while living in Florida, and upon returning to Maine in 1978, he continued that work.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Drouin Theriault Rioux; daughters, Heidi Remellard and husband, Brent, and their two children, Jacob and Staci, all from Buckfield and Debra Cummings of Auburn and her daughter, Chelsea of California; a stepson, Jeff Ames of Florida; his sister, Lauretta Lapointe and husband, Harry; brother, Donald and wife, Raymonde, of Sabattus; Sister Lorraine Rioux, Sister of St. Joseph from Springvale, and his sister, Lucille Rioux Belanger of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews, who he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his first wife, Gloria Ames Rioux.
