NORWAY — The Stone-Smart American Legion Unit 82 met on June 9, with President Joyce Clifford presiding.

Chaplain Christine Weiss reported that she had sent out or hand delivered several cards to the Western Maine Veterans’ Home and those ill at home.

Ellen Snow reported that she has donated $1,845 estimated value of children’s clothes, baby items and many other assorted items to the Norway Recreation Department, Responsible Pet Care and Mitizi Sequoia of Community Services.

Kim Hansen noted that a July birthday party at Western Maine Veterans’ Home will be held on Tuesday, July 13, and will be hosted by the County Council. She asked that members come to help.

Barbara Henley, Americanism chairwoman, recently presented items to the second-graders at the Guy E. Rowe School for Memorial Day and Flag Day. She gave them information about Memorial Day and why services are held each year, and information about the history of both days. She gave children patriotic tattoos, patriotic pictures to color, small American flags and candy.

Membership Chairwoman Joyce Clifford passed out membership certificates for Carolyn Baker, 50 years; Bernice Palmer and Ruth Gurney, 35 years; Shelby Decato, 25 years; Mary Raymond, 15 years; Barbara Henley, 10 years; and Jean Jones, Molly Weiss and Nicole Tracy, five years.

The meeting was preceded by a picnic supper with baked beans, red hot dogs, salads, homemade rolls and desserts of many kinds. The supper was co-chaired by Joyce Clifford and Rose Moulton.

It was the last meeting until September,  as the Legion and Auxiliary take a summer break.
