LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, Lewiston, continues its monthly programming including workshops for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase the employability.
Every Monday from 1-4 p.m. the Unemployed Professionals Group meets to support unemployed and underemployed professionals. Each week a guest speaker from the business community addresses the group on a topic related to personal or professional development or job search skills. The schedule of guest speakers and topics for July is as follows:
July 5, no meeting.
July 12, “Resume and Cover Letter Creation,” Cher Tyra, WMCA.
July 19, “Resources for Small Business Owners,” Shawn Savage, Augusta Internal Revenue Service.
July 26, “People Are People,” Robert Labrie, Maximum Potential.

The Focus on Your Job Search group meets every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. Participants meet with an employment counselor and other business and community experts to discuss job search challenges and strategies. Participants will receive support, mentoring and guidance for a successful job search.

Other workshops that are held each month include: Resume Basics and Interview Skills; Job Search Skills, a training orientation for those considering education or training endeavors; Career Decision Making; and workshops for individuals to explore financial aid and higher education opportunities.
Career Decision Making is a two-part workshop. On Monday the discussion is tools to use to help make career decisions. On Friday it will be using the information gained to make career plans. Registration is required. Workshop dates are: July 12 and July 16, or July 26 and July 30, 9 a.m. to noon.
Family Self-Sufficiency is for those who are a Lewiston Housing Authority or Section 8 participant. Are you living “paycheck to paycheck”? Renting and not earning equity in your home? Are you unemployed? If yes, you could greatly benefit from enrolling in this workshop. The Job Search Skills workshop helps conduct an effective job search. In this workshop, participants will learn how employers advertise and hire and methods you can use in your job search that will lead to success. Registration is required. The workshop will be held July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Resume Basics and Interview Skills will explore the basics of resumes and applications and how to make a resume and interview stand out. “Tough” interview questions will be discussed. Registration is required. Workshop dates are July 8 or July 22, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
New Mainers Job Search meets every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This group is designed for refugees and immigrants who have limited English skills. Participants will explore applications, resumes, interview skills and job search strategy.
The CareerCenter Training Orientation is an overview of training programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services. Ask CareerCenter staff for the schedule of meetings and to register (required).
In Essentials of College Planning for Adults, participants learn about college and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. Review a typical admissions application, request admissions materials and financial aid information from prospective colleges. Participants will complete the financial aid form. Bring last year’s income tax forms. Registration is required. Workshop dates are July 14 or July 28, beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting two to three hours.
An adult education representative is available to help people explore options to improve their job skills and which adult education programs or classes will best meet needs based on interests and career goals. Available July 7, 14, 21, 28, from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

In addition to workshops held at the CareerCenter, the Lewiston CareerCenter continues to partner with the Auburn Public Library to hold Job Search Skills and Resume and Interview Skills workshops at the APL.
