SOUTH PARIS — Sixteen students graduating from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School this year received $100 Aspire Higher scholarships as a result of marching in the fall Oxford Hills Homecoming/Aspire Higher Parade over their years in the Oxford Hills School District.
Each fall, 50 community members and businesses donate $100 toward the scholarships. The Kiwanis Charitable Foundation holds the scholarship money until students graduate from high school and enroll in a post-secondary institution. The primary goal of the Aspire Higher initiative is to raise post-secondary aspirations of students by showing community support and ensuring that the students are better informed about their post-secondary education choices.
Students who received scholarships were: Justin Aube, Jessica Brown, Chelsea Dickinson, Chelsea Gilbert, Cody Hadley, Dylan Haley, Mariah Kimball, Heather Knights, Steven Levesque, Aaron Loque, Megan McDougal, Jessica Riseman, Zach Surette, Nicole Tracy, Matt Verrier and Rachel Woodman.
Erica Ellingwood of Oxford Hills Christian Academy and Kathleen Mingle of Hebron Academy also received parade scholarships.
The Aspire Higher Committee, consisting of members from the Oxford Hills School District and the Oxford Hills community, organize the Aspire Higher initiative.
