HARRISON — A Harrison man was arrested Wednesday after he threatened to kill a car’s driver and grabbed the wheel of the vehicle, which went down an embankment into a tree, police said.

Tamra Benoit, 22 of Bridgton, told police she was driving on Naples Road with Ethan Herrick, 36, of Harrison, and they were in a heated argument when Herrick told Benoit he was going to kill her, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office. Benoit said Herrick then grabbed the steering wheel, forcing the car off the road.

The vehicle slammed into several trees and was totaled.

A passer-by saw the crashed car and helped Benoit from the wreck, police said. Benoit was taken to Bridgton hospital for back injuries.

Herrick was arrested at the scene at and taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where police planned to charge him with aggravated reckless conduct.
