A group of new mothers convened recently to form a Breastfeeding Support Group at Rumford Hospital. Kathy Sutton, RN, one of the two lactation consultants with the Birthing Center, facilitated the meeting. Also welcoming the group at its first meeting were Joette Carlton, RN, the Birthing Center nurse manager, and Shandi Averill, RN, a staff nurse. All three nurses are involved in a plan to make the hospital’s Birthing Center certified as Baby Friendly. The support group is just one part of that plan, said Carlton. Attending the first meeting were, from left, Katie Sirois, holding Keegan; Serena Flagg with Walker; Patty Smith and Brody; Saramarie Gervais and Aidan; Kristen Provencher with Cash; Jessica Reed, holding Colt; Jana Richardson with Elliott; and Michele Arajuo with Victoria. Not present when the photo was taken were Jessica Sirois and Madilynn.
