LEWISTON — Sylvio O. Caron, 91, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 30, at St. Mary’s Regional Mediical Center from a short battle of lung cancer.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1918, in New Auburn, to the late Jules and Anna Caron. Sylvio attended St. Louis parochial school in New Auburn. Sylvio was a self-taught and very skilled carpenter and was well-known locally for his small engine repair abilities.
For many years, he was a licensed plumber with Ouellette’s plumbing and later with Sasseville plumbing and retired from the W.S. Libbey Mill in 1963, as a spinning room supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Caron of Lewiston; two brothers, Robert Caron of Turner and Donald Caron and wife, Pauline, of Auburn; two sisters, Juliette Dargie and Lorraine Obie and husband, Gerard, all of Lisbon; five nieces and four nephews; sons, Maurice Caron and wife, Claire, of Scarborough and Norman Caron and wife, Lorraine, of Buckfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 10 stepchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; and 19 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Sylvio was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Duval; a son, Richard of Lewiston; his brother, Gerard of Alaska; infant siblings, Romeo and Constance; and grandson, John Caron. Special thanks to St. Mary’s ICU Nurse Jennifer and Dr. Kurt Oswald.
