AUGUSTA — Frederick Leeman, 78, of New Vineyard died Friday, July 2, due to complications from lung surgery, at Gray Birch Rehab and Living Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1931, in New Vineyard, the son of Carroll and Mabel (Baud) Leeman. As a young man, he worked at Forsters Manufacturing in Strong as a band saw operator, he owned and operated a service station in Strong before owning and operating small engine repair shop in New Vineyard.

Fred, however, was most proud of being a registered Maine Guide for more than 50 years. He was an active senior guide with the Megantic Fish and Game Club, a 32nd degree Mason with the New Vineyard Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foriegn Wars, loved hunting and fishing, working on small engines, and would help everyone however he could.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Lois Fey Leeman of Portland; two grandchildren, Jesse Raul Barajas of Arizona, and Leigh Frances Warren of Portland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Tom and Junior Leeman, and John Kenney; and his sister, Grace Trask.
