AUBURN — Scott Kevin Drown, 54, of Leeds, died June 30, at Hospice House of Androscoggin following a brief illness.

He was born March 17, 1956, in Biddeford, the son of Bayne W. and the late Clara (French) Drown. Mr. Drown was raised in Natick, Mass. He married the former Grace Fisher Koppelman, of Baltimore, Md., on Jan. 17, 1982, at Bryant Pond. He had two daughters, Lydia LaChapelle Drown, 19, and Polly Holman Drown, 17.

He received his bachelor of arts degree (biology) from Colby College, Waterville, in 1978 and his masters in education from the University of Southern Maine in 1991. He also took graduate courses at Rutgers University.

A lifelong educator who was dedicated to doing the right thing for his students, he was principal of Madison Elementary School in Madison and Starks Elementary School in Starks. He also held positions as principal at Meroby Elementary School (1998 to 2009), Leeds Central School (1994 to 1998), and Marion T. Morse School (1991 to 1994).

He was assistant principal at Mt. Abram High School (1988 to 1991). Prior to his administrative posts, he taught science at C.A. Snow Middle School in Fryeburg and Mt. Blue Middle School in Farmington.

Mr. Drown joined the Leeds Community Church in February 1993, where he was a church elder (1994 to 2010) and Clerk of Session (2000 to 2010). He was also a member of the Leeds Planning Board (1994 to 1998) and the Leeds Board of Appeals (1999 to 2010).

He loved being with his family and always made family dinners a priority. He also enjoyed renovating and improving the family’s 200-year-old farmhouse; he even relished the jobs of lawn mowing and snowplowing. He was a lover of dogs, particularly his Labrador Retrievers.

Among his many other interests and pursuits were skiing, tennis, gardening, and bicycling — since 2007, he had been an avid participant in the Trek Across Maine, helping to raise money for the American Lung Association. He was a good friend to many and enjoyed making time to help others.

His survivors include his wife, Grace, daughters, Polly (Hebron Academy, class of 2011) and Lydia (Smith College, class of 2013) of Leeds; his father, Bayne W.
