OXFORD — The Oxford Police Department is investigating the theft of money from a convenience store last month and is seeking help from the public.

Lt. Mike Ward said Monday that an employee of the Irving Little Mart on Route 26 went into work on Monday, May 31, and found that the store’s alarm had been disabled. Ward said someone gained access to the store by jimmying open the door and stole a couple of thousand dollars from the safe. The thief cut the alarm’s wires on a utility pole before entering the store.

Ward said there has been a recent rash of commercial burglaries in southern Maine using the same method of operation. One was at a Little Mart in Windham, and someone attempted another theft at a Little Mart in Gorham over the weekend.

“We do have suspects,” Ward said. “Any help from the public would be appreciated also.”

Anyone with information may call the Oxford Police Department at 539-4414.
