WEST SUMNER — Preparations are underway for the summer church season at the West Sumner Universalist Society, located on Main Street, Route 219, at the top of the hill. The first service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 11, and will be followed by a coffee hour.

Marilyn Hammond will open with a service of communion. The service will contain some historical notes as well as a Universalist Communion.

A christening service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. Anyone wishing to have their child or themselves christened, may call Pauline Kirschner at 388-2020.

A silent auction will also be held on Aug. 29 to help pay for the cost of painting the shutters in the church. Anyone with new items to donate can contact Kirschner. Donated items can be picked up.

The annual bake sale will be on July 18, after the morning service. There will be pies, cookies, bread, fudge and other treats.

The Church Restoration Committee, a fundraising arm of the church, is still accepting donations to assist in maintaining the church. Present extensive plans include raising enough money to paint the interior of the church.

Richard Beal; Aug. 15, the Rev. Vaikko Allen; Aug. 22, lay speaker Rodney Abbott; Aug. 29, the Rev. Scott Jones. Organist is Beth Chaffee.

All are welcome to attend and participate in church events.
