WOLFEBORO, N.H. — Denis Roland Pratt, 60, of Kennebunk, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 7, in Wolfeboro, N.H.
He was born in Lewiston, Dec. 14, 1949, the son of Roland and Lucille (Belanger) Pratt. He grew up in Lewiston, graduating from St. Dominic’s High School, Class of 1967. He continued on to college, earning his bachelor of architecture degree in 1972, from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Denis was employed as an architect and access design specialist for nearly 20 years with Alpha One, an independent living center located in South Portland. Denis was passionate and committed to helping individuals with disabilities in adapting their living environment by offering his expertise in “barrier free” and “universal” design.
In this capacity, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to the U.S. Access Board, where he proudly served for five years helping to assess federal and public facilities for compliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Denis was an active member and former president of the Maine State Jaycees. While in Kennebunk, he was a Cub Scout Master of Troop 302 and served on the Kennebunk Historical Commission. He had a long standing love/hate relationship with the Red Sox and enjoyed annual summer trips to the Cape with his wife and children.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marcia Pratt of Kennebunk; two sons, Geoffrey Denis Pratt, 30, of Watertown, Mass., and Timothy Pratt, 22, of Kennebunk; his daughter, Emily Jane Pratt, 32, of Philadelphia, Pa.; and his sister, Gisele Lamontagne and her husband, Don, of Auburn.
