MEXICO — Heavy rain flushed away any hope of holding the debut Outhouse Blowout races at the Mexico Recreation Park on Saturday morning.

The rain date for the races, which were to begin at 10 a.m., is believed to be Sunday, July 11, but organizers could not be reached or did not immediately return calls.

A handwritten placard attached to a stop sign at the entrance to the park off Route 17 simply read, “Race (postponed), weather.”

The race, which is a fundraiser to help buy playground equipment for the park, features 6-foot-tall outhouses made without wood or glass that are pulled by two teammates and pushed by two more teammates.

A fifth teammate is required to sit on the “hole”  and yell strategy to his or her “steeds” as they race down a 100-yard straightaway delineated with orange traffic cones.
