100 years ago, 1910

A Lewiston man who was taken to the Lewiston police station Monday forenoon suffering from what is believed to have been the delirium tremens died last night at Ste. Marie General Hospital. The man grew worse during the day and early in the evening was taken to the hospital in the patrol wagon. He died at 10 o’clock. He was about 30 years of age and was married.

50 years ago, 1960

The Lewiston-Auburn metropolitan area has a population of 68,479 in 1960, for a gain of 53 persons in 10 years, according to a preliminary report issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau.

Population figures for the two cities proper is 64,055, a drop from 64,108 in 1950. Auburn gained while Lewiston lost during the 10 years.

25 years ago 1985

Bath Iron Works management and the union representing 4,500 striking shipbuilders will resume negotiations next week, officials of both sides said Thursday. The talks will be the first since the walkout began July 1.

The meeting will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the shipyard offices, said Scott Johnson, chief steward of Local 6 of the AFL-CIO’s Industrial Union of Marine and Shipbuilding Workers of America.
