A construction project planned by John F. Murphy Homes Inc. got a $648,000 boost Monday from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
A statement issued by U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud’s office said that the Auburn-based nonprofit organization is building another four-unit group home in the Lewiston-Auburn area. The federal funding from HUD will help create 10 to 12 new jobs through the utilization of local contractors, architects and products.
John F. Murphy Homes Inc. provides residential services to more than 215 developmentally disabled adults in the Lewiston-Auburn region, as well as early intervention and school services resources for 150 developmentally disabled children.
“I have visited these homes and have been extremely impressed,” Michaud said. “This community housing helps residents learn skills that help them become more independent and involved in community life. This investment will not only provide additional housing services for the area, but it will also support local jobs.”
