KINGFIELD — Kingfield Days offers a three-day festival of barbecues, parades, contests, games and music.
Every spare minute will be packed with fun for kids and adults, according to volunteer Heather Moody.
“If it’s not fun, we’re not doing it,” she said. “We always have a lot of imaginative entries in the Whatever Floats parade on the river. It’s just a great opportunity to put your car in one place and walk or bike around downtown to all of these events.”
The rambunctious Saturday parade at noon is a centerpiece of the nonstop schedule, and the Sunday mud football game draws wildly enthusiastic crowds to cheer for their teams.
The Kingfield Historical Society will open its doors. The theme this year is “Time Flies,” and members have showcased a collection of pocket watches, mantel clocks, schoolhouse clocks and rare advertising calendars.
Also on display is a grandfather clock built in the early 1800s. The clock belonged to Solomon Stanley of the Kingfield Stanleys and was recently donated to the historical society.
“It is made entirely of wood, including the gears, and Silas Hoadley, who made it, was Seth Thomas’ teacher,” said volunteer David Holmes.
New this year is the Mudmobile, a traveling ceramics resource center in a van owned by Watershed, a Newcastle residency retreat which provides artists with a place to create in clay. Ceramic artists will provide clay, tools, slips and any other materials to provide a hands-on experience, according to organizer Myra Coffin.
“People will have a chance to try some of the techniques and tools, like a pottery wheel,” she said.
Traditional crafts, including flower arranging, quilting and photography, will be displayed in downtown locations.
