FARMINGTON — Members of Farmington Baptist Church on the Whittier Road moved their annual vacation Bible school from the church to a field located across from the Farmington Fairgrounds on High Street this year.

As children gathered Tuesday morning for a mission story after a cooling run under hose sprinklers and a snack, refreshment helpers Grace Firth and Cathy Pingree said the move was done to make it easier for downtown children to come join the fun of the weeklong adventure with a western-flair theme, Saddle Ridge Ranch.

The classes for preschoolers through age 12 are being held every morning this week from 9 a.m. to noon. Children are welcome to come for one day or the rest of the week, said organizer Eileen McGuire.

The new location includes a large field perfect for soccer, baseball and other games for younger children, said Amy Duvall, who leads the games.

It’s being held there to “reach out to children in the community,” she said.

Several children who have grown beyond the age limits have come back to help work with the younger children, she said.

The vacation Bible school will be held at the High Street location everyday this week, even if it rains, and all children are welcome to attend, McGuire said.
