Heavy rain falling on downtown Rumford at 5 p.m. Wednesday came down so fast for more than 30 minutes that windshield wipers couldn’t keep up with it, warping views of buildings and cars on Congress Street. Several drivers stopped on road shoulders along Route 2 and waited until it passed.
