SOUTH PARIS — Plans have been finalized for the Maine Military Event to be held on Saturday, July 17, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

“This day has been carefully and thoughtfully planned to present a well-rounded day to celebrate the many facets of military life,” said Joe Cooney, chairman of Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee.

There has been cooperation from many groups and individuals to make the event a reality, Cooney said. Deb Walo, chairwoman of the event, has lined up attractions that will be entertaining and meaningful to all ages, he said, and representatives from local veteran service organizations have been involved in carrying out every needed detail.

The festivities will begin at 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies including a flag raising. Various military vehicles will be on display on the grounds. There will be a Civil War encampment on display. Maine Veterans Services will have a mobile unit on site to answer any questions from veterans or their families.

There will also be a display from the Maine Military Museum in Portland. Live music will be performed by local groups Jarosady and Davina, with DJ services by TH’s DJ Service. Judith Haines will be available to take requested photos of the events, visitors or attractions. There will be raffles and giveaways.

A barbecue lunch, including burgers, hot dogs and chicken, will be served between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is free to the event and is open to the public. Parking will be available at the Paris Elementary School, with free shuttle service provided by the Maine Veterans’ Home.
