PORTLAND — Debra Darcey “Debbie” Bohnson, 39, of Auburn, an adorable child/woman passed on after an unsuspected and brave battle with colon cancer at Maine Medical Center on July 11, with family and a loving friend by her side.

Debbie Darcey was born Jan. 25, 1971, in Westbrook, the daughter of Richard Bohnson Jr. and Barbara (Alward) Berry. An exceptional child, Debbie had a stroke with seizures at 8 months old. She spent most of her life adapting to these obstacles: enduring multiple medical programs.

Yet, Debbie still managed to enjoy life and positively affect many peoples lives-from state legislatures, administrators, medical professionals, caregivers, family especially, and any one else lucky enough to be “touched” by her. Her nickname was “Sunshine”!

Debbie was blessed with two homes: one in Auburn (ODR, a John F. Murphy group home) and one in Windham with mom and dad. To accurately describe Debbie Darcey and all the things that were “Debbie” in her short life would require more words than just one person could say. Summed up, Debbie was an animated, loving, nurturing, happy person. She loved many things and many people with a delightful child’s exuberance. Debbie participated in all that was “fun” — music, dancing, holidays, bowling, Special Olympics, dressing up (glitz), flowers, and especially having her picture taken. Mustn’t forget lawn sales, shopping, McDonald’s and chasing squirrels in Deering Oaks. Scribbling notes to loved ones and helping others were favorite past times.

God bless you Debbie Darcey. We will miss you Honey! You make us all better people!

Debbie is survived by her mom, Barbie and dad, Howard; her father, Richard Bohnson Jr. and his wife, Carol; her sisters, Angela, Tammie and Justine; brothers, Keith and Brian; aunts Pattie, Kathryn, Pam, Alice, Ann, Chris, and Uncle Paul; and numerous loving friends.
