PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A young man being held at a Maine juvenile detention center has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 5-year-old boy during an outing to a beach.

Frank Stewart was 17 when the assault took place last July in a bathhouse at Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth while on a beach outing with other residents from the Long Creek Youth Development Center.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Stewart was charged as an adult and pleaded guilty this week to unlawful sexual contact. As part of a plea agreement, he will remain at the juvenile center until he is 21 so he can receive treatment for sex offenders.

After his release, he will be on probation for 14 years and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
