OXFORD — Police are looking into the reported assault and stabbing of a 17-year-old that occurred at the TD Bank 250 races over the weekend.
Family members of Ryan Walker of Auburn said he was stabbed in the hand and assaulted by a group of men at the Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday. Chief Jon Tibbetts and Lt. Michael Ward of the Oxford Police Department were unavailable Monday, but Officer Alan Coffin confirmed that the department received a complaint about a stabbing.
Walker’s brother, Timothy Lane of Lewiston, said a man in his 20s, as well as the man’s father and uncle, held Walker down during the assault. Cynthia Walker, Ryan’s mother, said two other men were involved as well.
Lane and Cynthia both said Ryan knew the man’s girlfriend, but had no past contact or confrontations with the men in the group. They said Ryan was attending the races with friends when the group accused him of throwing a bottle at the man’s truck or trying to hit the man or his girlfriend with a bottle.
Lane said the stabbing occurred around 10:45 p.m. and that family members were harassed by the men at Stephens Memorial Hospital and over the phone. He said he felt police should have responded to the fight more promptly, and that there should be several witnesses to the incident.
“I just want some answers,” he said. “I want someone arrested.”
Cynthia said Ward is investigating the case and would meet with her and Ryan. She said they know the name of the man in his 20s, but not the others in the group.
“I think they were out to kill my son if you ask me. I really do,” she said.
Lane said Ryan was released from the hospital, and an official there said they had no information on him. Ryan declined an interview Monday, saying he was sick.
