MEXICO — The Region 9 School of Applied Technology board approved a policy last week that clarifies the limitations of the chairman’s duties.
The discussion and resolution had been an ongoing issue for several months.
Region 9 Director Brenda Gammon said the adopted policy, approved unanimously, allows the chairman to sit on all subcommittees, but he or she can be a voting members on only one.
Board members Frank DiConzo, Randy Canwell and Carl Lueders were absent.
In other matters, the board accepted the resignation of part-time English teacher, Charlie Nielsen, who left to become a full-time English teacher at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School; and wood harvesting program educational technician, Ben Welch.
Both positions are being advertised.
Also last week:
Gammon said the board eliminated a policy that had allowed cash of up to $3,500 to employees who do not participate in the school’s health insurance program. She said during the past year, only one employee took advantage of the cash in lieu of insurance.
A school year 2010-11 calendar was adopted that calls for all Region 9 secondary students to begin classes on Aug. 30, which is a day or two later than the vocational school’s three sending high schools. Gammon said the later date was made so that all high school students who are enrolled in a vocational program will begin classes at the same time.
A few openings are still available in several of the school’s vocational programs, with computer technology having the most openings. Gammon said students interested in applying for any open slot may contact the school at 364-3764 for information.
