PARIS — The Oxford County commissioners said Tuesday that companies maintaining roads in Albany Township this summer may be retained for winter maintenance work.
The commissioners did not take a formal vote, but chairman Steve Merrill said there was a consensus to keep the two companies approved for the summer work. The board received proposals from eight companies, and approved D.A. Wilson of Waterford for summer maintenance on northern roads and Wilson Excavating for summer maintenance on southern roads in the township. The companies are unrelated.
Commissioners sent out a request for proposals to hire contractors for maintenance work through June 30 of 2013. The request did not outline requirements for winter maintenance, but the county reserved the right to negotiate winter maintenance with the selected contractors at the discretion of the commissioners.
County Administrator Scott Cole said that in his opinion, the county would be best served by retaining the existing contractors.
“I’d lobby for negotiating based on what the county paid at last year’s bidding,” he said.
A formal vote will be taken at a later date. The county is responsible for the maintenance of 23.04 miles of road in the winter and 26.7 miles of road in the summer.
