Ready…Read! is a community based effort with volunteer committee members from Lewiston and Auburn Adult Education, the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries, Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, the Lewiston and Auburn school departments and local child care providers. This year’s community-wide event focused on a book collection effort held in May. The goal was to collect 1,000 books, to be distributed to 100 needy families in the Lewiston-Auburn area, but the final count was closer to 2,000. Books are being distributed by Advocates for Children to families with few books available to them and to those with limited access to public libraries. Gillian Bourassa, center, accepted the donation of books on behalf of Advocates for Children from David Moorhead, left, children’s librarian at the Lewiston Public Library, left, and Bill Luce, director of Auburn Adult Education, right.
