PARIS — A special town meeting on Monday will allow voters to decide on matters ranging from medical marijuana to daytime coverage of the Fire Department.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the fire station. It will be followed by a regular selectmen’s meeting.

The first article deals with a 180-day moratorium ordinance on medical marijuana dispensaries. The proposal states the such dispensaries present concerns about public safety and compatibility and applicability of existing municipal rules. It asks for the 180-day period for the town to develop appropriate land use regulations regarding dispensaries.

The second article involves a $32,502.76 settlement with former town manager Sharon Jackson. Following the termination of her contract last June, Jackson appealed the decision to the Oxford County Superior Court. The settlement represents lost wages for the time period between when severance paid to Jackson ran out and when she was hired to be the town manager of Fryeburg. The payment would come from the town’s surplus funds.

The third article deals with raising or appropriating $90,995 to pay for per diem firefighters to staff the fire station during the day. The staffing suggestion was made due to inadequate daytime coverage as more volunteer firefighters need to work outside the local area. Selectmen recommend that the article pass, either with the full amount coming from taxation or $50,000 of the total coming from an insurance fund related to the former fire station on Pine Street.

The final article involves rescinding a decision made at the annual town meeting in 1999 setting July 1 as the start of the term for elected municipal officers. If the decision is overturned, the terms will revert to the practice outlined in state statute commencing terms at the annual town meeting.
