Jeers to people who go to the beach and leave crap.

Yes, actual crap.

Raymond Beach on Sebago Lake will be closed for the rest of the summer, according to a story in Friday’s Press Herald, because, as the PH writer gracefully put it, “some users are leaving behind a lot more than footprints in the sand.”

Way more.

Even though the town provides portable toilets along Route 302, some people are apparently hiking into a grassy area adjacent to the beach to relieve themselves.

This is in addition to hypodermic needles, used condoms, dog feces, liquor bottles and beer cans.

The Press Herald says workers filled three 32-gallon trash bags with stuff last Thursday morning, including 15 dirty diapers.

Selectmen are expected to decide in coming weeks how to solve the problem. Possible plans include closing the beach or hiring rangers to monitor its use.

Either way, it will be the sad result of beach-goers behaving badly.
