BUXTON — Clayton Goodwin Ellis, 84, of Buxton, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 3, 1926, in Strong, the son of Gerald and Alida (Goodwin) Ellis. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Flora Allen, after finding her in a bean field working on his parents’ farm. They lived in the Farmington area and Cowan Hill for 17 years farming and lumbering. In 1966, they moved to Southern Maine where he worked for Adams Trucking, then W. H. Shurtleff Co. as a mechanic, retiring in 1988.
Clayton and Flora raised 7 children. Family was very important to him. He enjoyed the reunions and monthly family gatherings. He also enjoyed motorcycles, trips to Bluegrass with Flora, teasing his grandchildren and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Flora of Buxton; their children, Darcy Ellis Sr. and his wife, Judy, of New Sharon, Patti Haskell and her hsuband, Dave, of Standish, Vicki Anderson and her husband, Bob, of W. Newfield, Steve Ellis of W. Virginia, Kim Ellis and his wife, Ooy, of Hogansville, GA., Todd Ellis and his wife, Kelly, of Buxton and Greg Ellis of Buxton. 14 grandchildren, Darcy Ellis, Jr., Tony Ellis, Mona Schuerman, Malissa Dubie, Laura Sawyer, Cindy Woodworth, Tim Anderson, Jessie Regis, Scott Anderson, Michael Ellis, Nicole Ellis, Britney Ellis, Angela Ellis and Ashley Ellis; and 19 great-grandchildren.
