The first drowning of the season at Lake Auburn occurred Sunday morning when two Lewiston men in their twenties upset their canoe and drowned instantly. The young men came to Lake Grove on the car reaching there at 8:30 0’clock and immediately went out in a canoe.
The canoe was only 14 feet in length. It is suitable for only one man, and then only if that man is familiar with a canoe.

Lewiston-Auburn merchants had a very good reception to their annual Dollar Days sale last Friday and Saturday, a Chamber of Commerce official reported yesterday.
William P. Tewhey, executive vice president of the Lewiston Chamber, said business during the two days proved to be better than last year.

The Lewiston-Auburn Beautification Program, implemented by the area Chamber of Commerce with assistance from the public, is drawing attention statewide, according to Chamber Executive Vice President William C. Harkins.
“The program, with its ‘Adopt-A-Spot’ feature in particular, has caught the attention of other Maine Chambers, with the city of Augusta the latest to seek information,” said Harkins. “We are providing the details, and some groups have expressed an interest in attending future meetings of the Beautification Committee to gain more insight.”
