CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Mary A. Davala, 91, of Lisbon Falls, died Wednesday, July 21, at the Hospice Center of Cape Coral, Fla., following a long illness.
Mrs. Davala was born in Trebisov, Slovakia, on Feb. 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary (Dutko) Davala. She immigrated to the United States in 1930 aboard the ship “The Mauritania,” traveling with her mother and brother to reunite with her father, living in Lisbon Falls, Maine.
In 1933, she married Joseph Davala of Durham, who predeceased her on Aug. 10, 1988. They lived in Durham for many years where they raised their three children. Mary worked in the Worumbo Mill most of her life. She and her husband, Joe, loved lilac shrubs that bordered their Durham home for many years.
She was a member of St. Cyril and Methodious Church for many years and then Holy Trinity Church.
She was a longtime member of the Daughters of Isabella and prayed the rosary daily. She loved picking shells when vacationing in Florida and was a great fan of the Red Sox.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Davala and his wife, Diane, of Cape Coral, Fla., and James Davala and his wife, Pamela, of Nashua, N.H.; five grandchildren, Kimberley Willette, Stephen Davala, Matthew Davala, Christopher Davala and Melinda Sarkis; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1988; a son, Robert, in 1956; and her brother, Michael, in 2008.
