It seems that every time a special town meeting is called in Dixfield, it means somebody wants to spend more town money. Under the current uncertain economic situation, this is not the time to be depleting the accounts held for the community.
Purchasing a building without a single, practical detail for its use is ridiculous. Not only will it take the property off the tax rolls, but you can bet the taxpayers will be asked in the future to expend more as a few people chase “iffy” ventures.
Property investments are best left to the private sector.
I’m all for economic development for Dixfield and have heard some wonderful ideas from citizens interested in starting a business. Getting through the red tape of government creates such an obstacle to them, they just give up.
We are stuck with a government that is allowed to promote any whimsical notion it can conjure up while our citizens are turned down by permit and regulation.
Meanwhile, our property taxes and utility bills continue to go up.
