RUMFORD — The Public Room at the Rumford Public Library has been filled with special guests and activities during the library’s Summer Fest program. The following activities are planned for the final week:
Attendees will get ready to “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and sing along with Elaine Michaud on Tuesday, July 27. A physical education teacher at Mountain Valley Middle School, Michaud loves to get everyone singing and dancing.
The Rumford Public Library’s summer reading program “Make a Splash…READ” will conclude with the summer reading awards celebration at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, for those readers who completed at least one week of the four week reading program. Many local children participated in the program and earned prizes.
Refreshments will be served following the presentation of the final certificates and incentives. Children are asked to wear their “Make a Splash…READ” T-shirts to the celebration. Reading participants attending on Wednesday will also be eligible for items donated by local businesses, which will be drawn as door prizes. Those unable to attend the celebration may pick up their certificates any day after Wednesday.
The library’s children’s theater group has been preparing since early June for the presentation of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” directed by Susan DeRoehn. Cast members include Kristin Arsenault, Ian Brennick, Isaish Campbell, Kyle Cote, Logan Cote, Carita DeTellis, Zach Hodge, Abby Johnson, Abby LaBrash, Erin Landry, Paige Landry, Ellie LeDuc Alanna McGinty, Morgan O’Neil-Gordon, Isabelle Picard, Natalie Reed, Ron Russell, Braeden Soule, Jacob True and Lily True.
Assisting with this year’s production are several past children’s theater performers: assistant director, Tory Gordon; prompter, Lea Nolette; sound, Chelsea DeRoehn; and lights, Erich Zurhorst.
The show will be presented on Thursday, July 29, at the Mountain Valley Middle School auditorium in Mexico. The matinee will begin at 3 p.m., with an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. The shows are free and fun for all ages.
The final Summer Fest program will be a Picnic in the Park at noon Friday, July 30, presented by Meroby Library Media Specialist Barbara Hammond. Her story theme is “Something’s Fishy.” Attendees should bring a picnic blanket and lunch and join the group on the back lawn of the library, rain or shine.
All programs are free of charge and open to all area children and their friends. Parents and other caregivers are welcome to attend and are encouraged to accompany younger children. The programs are held in the library’s public room at 3 p.m., with the exception of the Friday noontime picnic in the park and the children’s theater Thursday performances.
