100 years ago, 1910

The sale of the Auburn-Turner  Railroad to the L. A. & W. St. Ry. may be consummated today for a meeting of the parties interested will be held this morning. It is understood that if the final papers are passed today, the L. A. & W. St. Ry. will at once assume control of the new acquisition, build a substation and continue the road to Turner Center besides making a number of other improvements.

50 years ago, 1960

The assignment of a police officer to accompany the man who collects Lewiston’s parking meter money for the city was recommended last night by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Every member of the council who discussed the matter stressed that there is no question whatsoever about the honesty, diligence and trustworthiness of the present fund collector and meter repair man but that the officer should be assigned as a matter of good business practice.

Lewiston-Auburn area residents who are eagerly awaiting the return of old-fashioned Coca-Cola will have to wait a little bit longer, according to an official of the local Coke bottling plant.

George Savage, sales manager for Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Lewiston, said the old-flavor Coke — which will be known as “Classic” Coke — cannot be concocted until the local bottling plant receives the secret formula from the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.
